What is the jet stream?
A narrow band of very fast wind high up, usually blowing west to east.
- A trail of exhaust behind jet airplanes
- A warm ocean current near Florida
- A fast, narrow river of wind high in the sky ✔
Why: The jet stream is a high-speed, narrow stream of wind found near the top of the troposphere. It usually flows from west to east, which can speed up eastbound flights.
Huh, didn't know that: A west-to-east jet stream can give an eastbound aircraft a tailwind.
Why do pilots love the jet stream flying east? It gives them a great tail-ent.
