- A large plasma loop held by magnetic fields ✔
- A brief flash of light and radiation
Why: A prominence is cool, dense solar plasma suspended above the Sun's surface by a strong magnetic field. Seen over the Sun's edge, it often looks like a bright loop.
Huh, didn't know that: Seen against the Sun's disk, the same kind of structure is called a filament.
Why was the prominence so popular? It really knew how to stand out.
