SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/boat-canoe-kneeling
What is the most stable position in a canoe?
Kneeling, which keeps your weight low.
- Standing
- Kneeling ✔
- Sitting high on the seat
Why: Lower weight means a steadier boat. Kneeling puts your center of gravity lower than sitting on the seat, and standing is the least stable of all. Keep weight low and centered when getting in or out too.
Huh, didn't know that: NASBLA says capsizing is considered a normal part of paddling, so paddlers should always be ready to swim.
Why was the canoe so calm? It always kept an even keel.
