What should be done with a U.S. flag that is worn out and tattered?
Destroy it in a dignified way, usually by burning.

Why: A torn or dirty flag should not be flown. It is retired respectfully, most often by burning it in a dignified way.
Huh, didn't know that: Learn to Lead also says never drape the flag over a parade float or a car.
Why did the old flag go to the tailor? It was feeling a little frayed.
