SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/cdl-clp-supervisor-front-seat
When a CLP holder drives a truck, where must the supervising CDL holder be?
In the front seat, right next to them.
- In the front seat next to the driver ✔
- Anywhere in the vehicle
- In a car following behind
Why: The CDL holder must have the right class and endorsements and sit in the front seat beside the trainee, watching and supervising. On a bus they sit directly behind the driver or in the first row.
Huh, didn't know that: The supervisor must be allowed to drive that same vehicle on that trip.
Why are driving instructors so calm? They know how to handle a sharp turn of events.
