SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/check-engine-light
If the check engine light is flashing, what should you do?
Reduce driving and get it checked quickly.
- Keep driving and get it checked this weekend
- Pull over safely and get it checked right away ✔
- Add oil and see if it stops flashing
Why: A flashing check engine light usually means the engine is misfiring, which can quickly overheat and ruin the catalytic converter. Slow down, stop when it's safe, and get it checked right away. A steady light is less urgent.
Huh, didn't know that: A steady light is usually less urgent than a flashing one.
My car loves music. It has great exhaust notes.
