Why does the American flag have 50 stars?

One star for each state.

  1. One star for each signer of the Declaration
  2. One star for each state ✔
  3. One star for each year of the Revolution

Why: Each of the 50 stars stands for one state. The Declaration had 56 signers, and the Revolution lasted about eight years.

Huh, didn't know that: The 50-star flag has flown since July 4, 1960, after Hawaii became a state.

The dad joke
What has 50 stars but never goes to space? The American flag.
