When should someone diagnosed with type 2 diabetes get an eye exam for retinopathy?

Why: Diabetic retinopathy can begin without noticeable symptoms. CDC says an eye exam should happen immediately after a type 2 diagnosis.
Huh, didn't know that: The eye doctor dilates the eyes to inspect the retina and its blood vessels.
