SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/diab-whole-grain-first
What should you look for on a bread's ingredient list to find a whole grain?
'Whole grain' or 'whole wheat' as the first ingredient.
- 'Enriched flour' as the first ingredient
- 'Whole grain' or 'whole wheat' first ✔
- A brown color on the package
Why: ADA says to look for 'whole grain' or 'whole wheat' as the first ingredient instead of 'enriched.' Whole grains keep their fiber, B and E vitamins and minerals.
Huh, didn't know that: ADA says at least half of your daily grains should come from whole grains.
