SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/drive-back-smoothly-slowly
What speed gives the best control while backing?
Back at a smooth, safe, slow speed.
- Fast enough to coast
- The same speed as forward traffic
- A smooth, safe speed ✔
Why: Low, smooth speed gives you time to steer and stop for hazards. Keep looking behind and around the vehicle throughout the maneuver.
Huh, didn't know that: Small steering inputs can change a vehicle's path quickly while reversing.
Reverse took it slow because it did not want to get ahead of itself.
