In most states, when may you turn right at a steady red light?

After a full stop, if no NO TURN ON RED sign is posted.

  1. After a full stop, unless a sign forbids it ✔
  2. Never
  3. Anytime, without stopping

Why: Stop completely at the stop line, yield to pedestrians and cross traffic, then turn when safe. A NO TURN ON RED sign cancels the option.

Huh, didn't know that: New York City is a big exception: right on red is banned there unless a sign allows it.

The dad joke
Why did the car turn right on red? It was feeling all right about it.
