What do lines of latitude measure?

Degrees north or south of the equator.

  1. Degrees east or west of Greenwich, England
  2. Magnetic variation
  3. Degrees north or south of the equator ✔

Why: Latitude lines run east and west, parallel to the equator, and count degrees north or south of it, up to 90 at the poles. Longitude counts east or west of the Prime Meridian.

Huh, didn't know that: The 48 contiguous states lie between about 25 and 49 degrees north latitude.
