SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/drone-traffic-pattern-left-turns
Unless charts or markings say otherwise, which way do airplanes turn in an airport traffic pattern?
Left turns are standard in the traffic pattern.
- Right turns
- Either way, pilot's choice
- Left turns ✔
Why: The standard traffic pattern uses left turns so everyone flows the same way. Airports that use right traffic show it on charts or with a segmented circle.
Huh, didn't know that: Sectional charts mark right-hand patterns with 'RP' and the runway number, like RP 18.
What did one wall say to the other wall? I'll meet you at the corner.
