SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/ham-automatic-control-repeater
Which station operation is an example of automatic control?
Normal repeater operation is automatic control.
- Operating a station over the internet
- Sending CW with a computer
- Repeater operation ✔
Why: A repeater can retransmit signals without a control operator making each transmission decision. Internet operation is remote control, while computer-generated CW can still be locally controlled.
Huh, didn't know that: Automatic control concerns how transmissions are initiated, not merely whether a computer is involved.
Why did the repeater work automatically? It already knew what came next.
