What happens to coaxial cable loss as signal frequency is increased?

The loss increases.

  1. The loss decreases
  2. The characteristic impedance increases
  3. The loss increases ✔

Why: Coax loses more power at higher frequencies. A cable that works fine on HF can waste much of your signal on UHF.

Huh, didn't know that: That is why hams often use thicker coax or hardline for UHF and microwave antennas.

The dad joke
Why did the coax hate going to high-frequency parties? It always left feeling drained.
