What does the procedural signal CQ mean?
CQ means calling any station.
- Only the named station should answer
- Calling any station ✔
- A report of communication quality
Why: CQ is a general call inviting any station to answer. It is not an audio quality report or an instruction limiting replies to one station.
Huh, didn't know that: Operators often repeat CQ so listeners recognize the general call before the call sign follows.
