Who may pick a call sign they want under the FCC vanity call sign rules?

Any licensed amateur, even a brand new Technician.

  1. Any licensed amateur ✔
  2. Only General or Amateur Extra licensees
  3. Only hams licensed for more than 10 years

Why: Any licensed ham can apply for a vanity call sign. Higher classes just get to choose from shorter call sign groups.

Huh, didn't know that: In the sequential system, Technicians get Group D call signs, a 2 by 3 format like KF1XXX.
