SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/hunt-carrying-capacity

In wildlife management, what is carrying capacity?

The most animals a habitat can support with its food, water, cover and space.

  1. How much meat a hunter can legally carry
  2. The maximum number of animals a habitat can support ✔
  3. The number of hunters allowed in an area

Why: Every habitat can only feed and shelter so many animals. Carrying capacity changes with seasons and years, and regulated hunting helps keep populations from going over it.

Huh, didn't know that: When habitat is damaged, the carrying capacity of that area goes down.
