What's unusual about how the Federal Duck Stamp's artwork is chosen?

It's the only federally regulated and run art contest.

  1. The President picks it
  2. It is chosen in a yearly federal art contest ✔
  3. It always shows the same mallard

Why: Every year artists enter paintings of waterfowl, and judges pick the winner for the next stamp. The program has been running since 1934.

Huh, didn't know that: Birders, nature photographers and collectors buy Duck Stamps too, not just hunters.

The dad joke
Why did the duck become an artist? He loved to draw with his bill.
