Under the primary rules of firearm safety, how should you treat every firearm?

As if it were loaded, every time, no matter who says it is empty.

  1. As if it were loaded ✔
  2. As unloaded unless the safety is off
  3. As loaded only if you loaded it

Why: Treating every firearm as loaded is one of the four primary rules taught in hunter education. People get hurt by guns they were sure were empty. The habit protects you even when you are wrong.

Huh, didn't know that: Hunter education teaches that the first thing you do when you pick up a firearm is point it in a safe direction and check whether it is loaded.

The dad joke
Why did the hunter bring a ladder to class? He heard the safety rules were high priority.
