What is the main purpose of an ATIS broadcast?
It provides routine terminal information while reducing frequency congestion.
- Automate routine terminal information ✔
- Replace all tower clearances
- Provide airborne radar separation
Why: ATIS continuously broadcasts recorded, noncontrol information at busy terminals. It saves controllers from repeatedly transmitting routine weather and airport details.
