SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/pilot-avgas-weight-per-gallon
For weight and balance, how much does one gallon of avgas weigh?
6 pounds per gallon.
- 5 pounds
- 6 pounds ✔
- 7.5 pounds
Why: The FAA handbook uses 6 pounds per gallon for aviation gasoline in weight and balance problems. So 50 gallons of fuel adds about 300 pounds.
Huh, didn't know that: Useful load is the weight of the pilot, passengers, baggage, usable fuel and drainable oil.
Why did the student bring a scale to flight school? To weigh the options.
