To select the highest available pilot-controlled lighting intensity, how many times should you key the mic?
7 times within 5 seconds selects the highest available intensity.
- 3 times within 5 seconds
- 5 times within 5 seconds
- 7 times within 5 seconds ✔
Why: Pilot-controlled lighting responds to 7, 5 or 3 mic clicks. The AIM suggests starting with 7 clicks in 5 seconds for the highest available intensity, then using 5 or 3 clicks to dim compatible systems.
Huh, didn't know that: The lights stay on for 15 minutes from the most recent activation, so key the mic again as you near the airport.
I clicked my mic seven times and the runway lit up. Best party trick I know.
