SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/pilot-extinguisher-class-c
On a fire extinguisher, which fire class means energized electrical equipment?
Class C, which needs a nonconductive agent.
- Class A
- Class B
- Class C ✔
Why: FAA guidance on aircraft hand extinguishers lists Class A for ordinary materials like cloth and paper, Class B for flammable liquids, and Class C for live electrical equipment.
Huh, didn't know that: The same FAA circular says not to use halon on a Class D fire, burning metal, because it can react with the metal.
My fire extinguisher got a C in electrical class. Turns out that's the top grade.
