On an airport diagram, what is a hot spot?
A spot with a history of collision or runway incursion risk that needs extra attention.
- A place where engines may overheat
- A location with a history of incursion risk ✔
- A spot reserved for refueling
Why: The Pilot/Controller Glossary defines a hot spot as a place on the movement area with a history of potential collisions or runway incursions. Pilots should find them on the airport diagram before taxiing.
Huh, didn't know that: Hot spots are often labeled HS1, HS2 and so on, with a short note in the Chart Supplement or diagram.
Why did the pilot slow down at the hot spot? He didn't want to get burned.
