SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/pilot-initial-radio-call-order
What should you say first when making an initial radio call to ATC?
Say the facility name first.
- Facility name ✔
- Your altitude
- Your destination
Why: The AIM format starts with the name of the facility you are calling. Next comes your full aircraft identification and, when on the airport surface, your position.
Huh, didn't know that: A short request may be included in the initial call.
Why did the radio introduce itself? It wanted a clear connection.
