SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/pilot-radar-vectors-advisory
Who remains responsible for safe flight when ATC gives radar vectors to a VFR pilot?
The pilot remains responsible.
- The radar controller
- The airport operator
- The pilot ✔
Why: Radar navigation guidance to a VFR aircraft is advisory. A vector does not authorize a regulation violation or transfer responsibility for safely flying the airplane.
Huh, didn't know that: Pilots should tell controllers about weather conditions along the route ahead.
ATC offered a vector, but the pilot still had to draw the line.
