SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/pilot-spin-one-wing-stalled
What is true of the wings in every spin?
At least one wing is stalled. A spin is an aggravated stall.
- Neither wing is stalled
- At least one wing is stalled ✔
- Both wings make equal lift
Why: A spin is an aggravated stall where the airplane rotates while descending in a corkscrew path. The two wings make different amounts of lift and drag, and at least one is stalled. No stall, no spin.
Huh, didn't know that: Mishandling yaw control, meaning the rudder, during a stall makes a spin entry more likely.
Why don't merry-go-rounds ever get lost? They always come back around.
