SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/pilot-white-arc-vs0
On an airspeed indicator, what does the bottom of the white arc mark?
VS0, stall speed in the landing configuration.
- VS1, stall speed clean
- VFE, maximum flap speed
- VS0, stall speed in landing configuration ✔
Why: The white arc is the flap operating range. Its lower end is VS0, the stall speed with gear and flaps down. Its upper end is VFE, the fastest you may fly with flaps extended.
Huh, didn't know that: Approaches and landings are usually flown at speeds within the white arc.
Why did the airspeed indicator take art class? To work on its arcs.
