SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/scout-cut-away-from-body
When whittling or cutting with a pocketknife, which way should the blade move?
Away from your body.
- Toward your thumb for control
- Toward your chest for power
- Away from your body ✔
Why: If the blade slips while cutting toward you, it ends up in you. Scout Life lists cutting toward your body as a major no-no, along with throwing a knife.
Huh, didn't know that: Scout Life also lists using a dull or dirty blade as a knife no-no.
What did the whittler say about his carving? It was a little sketchy, but he whittled it down.
