SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/scout-dishwater
What should you do with dishwater at a backcountry camp?
Carry it 200 feet from water, strain it, and scatter it.
- Pour it straight into the stream
- Dump it all in one spot by your tent
- Strain it and scatter it 200 feet from water ✔
Why: Wash dishes at least 200 feet from streams or lakes with a little biodegradable soap. Strain out food bits to pack out, then scatter the water.
Huh, didn't know that: Leave No Trace says pack out all trash, leftover food and litter.
Why did the pot go camping? It wanted to get away from all the dishes at home.
