How far should a campfire be from tents and overhanging branches?
At least 15 feet.
- At least 15 feet ✔
- At least 3 feet
- At least 100 yards
Why: Sparks and embers can drift. Smokey Bear says keep the fire at least 15 feet from tents, plants and low branches, with overhead space at least three times the flame height.
Huh, didn't know that: Smokey also says to clear an area at least 10 feet across around the fire pit.
Why did the tent move away from the campfire? It couldn't handle the heat.
