What does the Hug-a-Tree lesson teach a lost child to do?

Stay put by a tree and wait for searchers.

  1. Keep walking until you find a road
  2. Hide so strangers can't find you
  3. Stay in one place by a tree and wait ✔

Why: A child who stays in one spot is much easier to find. Hugging a tree, or a bench or big rock, keeps them put and calm while they listen for people calling.

Huh, didn't know that: The Park Service also tells lost kids to make themselves big by waving their arms.

The dad joke
Why did the tree love the lost kid? Because of all the hugs.
