Without a compass at night, which star helps you find north?

Polaris, the North Star.

  1. Sirius, the brightest star
  2. Polaris, the North Star ✔
  3. Betelgeuse in Orion

Why: Polaris sits almost straight over Earth's north pole, so it stays in about the same spot while other stars circle around it. Face it and you are facing north.

Huh, didn't know that: The two pointer stars at the end of the Big Dipper's cup line up toward Polaris.

The dad joke
Why is the North Star so popular? It's a real star.
