After a snakebite on the leg, what should you NOT put on it?
A tourniquet or ice.
- A clean, dry dressing
- A tourniquet or ice ✔
- Soap and water to clean it
Why: Mayo Clinic and NIOSH both say no tourniquet and no ice. Clean the bite with soap and water, cover it loosely with a clean, dry bandage, and get emergency help.
Huh, didn't know that: Mayo Clinic says to remove jewelry and tight clothing before swelling starts.
