What is a waterspout?
A tornado over water, usually one that did not come from a supercell storm.
- A tornado over water ✔
- A geyser shooting up from the seafloor
- A heavy rain shaft from a thunderstorm
Why: A waterspout is a rotating column of air over water, basically a tornado on a lake or sea. Most are smaller and weaker than big Plains tornadoes, but they can still be dangerous to boats and planes.
Huh, didn't know that: Waterspouts only count in US tornado records if they move onto land.
Why did the waterspout go to school? To get a little more twisted knowledge.
