SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/bird-never-squeeze-chest
Pressure on which area makes it hard for a restrained bird to breathe?
Never squeeze the chest.
- Tail feathers
- Chest ✔
- Beak tip
Why: A bird must move its chest to breathe. Merck says to wrap gently around the back and never press on the chest, so restraint is best learned from an avian professional.
Huh, didn't know that: A small washcloth may fit a small parrot, while a large bird needs a larger towel.
Why was the towel gentle with the bird? It did not want to ruffle any feathers.
