SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/boat-docking-ready
What should you have ready before you approach a dock?
Your fenders and dock lines.
- Your fishing rods
- The anchor over the stern
- Fenders and dock lines ✔
Why: Docking goes best with lines and fenders set before you arrive, not grabbed at the last second. Wind and current will push the boat around, so plan your approach for them and go slowly.
Huh, didn't know that: NASBLA warns that significant damage and injuries happen during docking in marinas and boat ramps, especially in bad weather.
Did you hear about the rope that got tied in a knot? It was a frayed knot.
