SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/boat-stow-gear-low
Where is the best place to stow and secure gear on a boat?
As low and centered as possible.
- High on the front deck
- Stacked on the back deck
- Low and centered ✔
Why: Weight kept low and in the middle keeps the boat stable. Tie gear down too, so a wave or sharp turn can't send it sliding to one side.
Huh, didn't know that: Balance matters both ways: side to side and bow to stern.
Why did the cooler stay in the middle of the boat? It was well balanced.
