The squadron commander.

  1. The flight sergeant
  2. The color guard commander
  3. The squadron commander ✔

Why: The guidon is the squadron's flag, and the bearer is a specially picked cadet who carries it for the squadron commander. When the commander leaves the formation, the bearer goes too.

Huh, didn't know that: Normally, the bearer marches one step behind and two 12-inch steps to the commander's left.

The dad joke
Why does the squadron commander keep the guidon bearer close? Every leader needs someone to flag things down.
