SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/cadet-guidon-salute-left-hand
When holding a guidon outside formation, which hand does the bearer use to salute?
With the left hand, touching the staff, in two counts.
- With the right hand, like everyone else
- By dipping the guidon to the ground
- With the left hand, touching the staff ✔
Why: The right hand holds the staff, so the bearer salutes with the left. The left arm comes across the body, palm down, and the forefinger touches the staff, then the hand cuts away.
Huh, didn't know that: For present guidon, the bearer lowers the staff straight to the front on the execution command.
Why does the guidon bearer salute with the left hand? The right hand already has its hands full.
