SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/dad-flat-recheck-torque
After you change a wheel yourself, what does Kia say to do?
Have a dealer tighten the nuts to proper torque.
- Nothing, hand-tight is permanent
- Have a dealer tighten the nuts to proper torque ✔
- Retighten every nut 10 more turns
Why: Kia's manual says to have the vehicle checked by an authorized dealer to tighten the wheel nuts to their proper torque. A roadside wrench cannot measure torque.
Huh, didn't know that: Kia lists wheel nut torque as 79 to 94 lbf-ft for its steel and alloy wheels in that manual.
Did I ever tell you about the hardworking mechanic who had to push her car five miles on its hubcaps? She was tireless.
