How often do most people with diabetes need a dilated eye exam?
Once a year, unless your care team suggests a different plan.

Why: Diabetic eye disease often has no early warning signs. Drops widen the pupils so the doctor can see the back of the eye and catch problems early, when treatment works best.
Huh, didn't know that: NIDDK says finding and treating diabetic retinopathy early can reduce the risk of blindness by 95 percent.
