SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/diab-low-under-70
For many people with diabetes, a blood sugar below what number counts as low?
70 mg/dL. Ask your care team what counts as low for you.
- 70 mg/dL ✔
- 120 mg/dL
- 40 mg/dL
Why: For many people, low blood sugar, called hypoglycemia, means under 70 mg/dL. Your care team may give you a different number, so ask what counts as low for you.
Huh, didn't know that: Lows are common with type 1 diabetes and with type 2 when taking insulin or some other diabetes medicines.
Why did 70 refuse to go any lower? It knew where to draw the line.
