SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/drone-hot-high-day-reduce-weight
Your drone is loaded to max takeoff weight on a hot day at a high site. What may you need to do?
Reduce weight before trying to fly.
- Reduce the weight before flight ✔
- Add weight for stability
- Nothing; max weight is always safe
Why: A maximum takeoff weight does not mean the drone can lift it in every condition. High elevation, heat and humidity (high density altitude) may mean you have to take weight off first.
Huh, didn't know that: The FAA says the remote PIC should check weight and balance before every flight.
Why did the drone go on a diet in the summer? Hot days made it feel heavy.
