SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/drone-overweight-reduced-climb
Which is a real effect of overloading a drone or airplane?
A reduced rate of climb, along with higher stall speed and shorter range.
- A longer range
- A reduced rate of climb ✔
- A lower stalling speed
Why: Extra weight makes the aircraft fly at a higher angle of attack, adding drag. That leaves less spare thrust for climbing and cuts range and maneuverability.
Huh, didn't know that: Hot, high, humid conditions may require you to carry less than the maximum weight, even if the spec sheet allows it.
I wanted to learn to drive a stick shift, but I couldn't find the manual.
