SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/drone-load-factor-60-degree-bank
In a level, coordinated turn at 60 degrees of bank, what is the load factor?
2 Gs, so the wing must hold up twice the aircraft's weight.
- 2 Gs ✔
- 1.5 Gs
- 3 Gs
Why: Banking to hold altitude makes the wing pull harder. At 60 degrees, it must make lift equal to twice the weight, and the load climbs fast past 45 to 50 degrees.
Huh, didn't know that: At an 80 degree bank, the load factor reaches 5.76 Gs.
I used to be addicted to the hokey pokey, but then I turned myself around.
