Where must the FAA registration number be displayed on a small drone?

On an external surface, where it can be read.

  1. Inside the battery compartment
  2. On an external surface, legibly ✔
  3. Only on the controller

Why: Part 48 says the unique identifier must be legibly displayed on an external surface of the drone. The FAA says to label it before you fly.

Huh, didn't know that: The identifier is normally your FAA registration number, though the FAA may allow the serial number instead.

Why did the drone wear its registration number on the outside? It wanted everyone to know its name.
