SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/drone-max-altitude-400-agl
Without a structure nearby or a waiver, what is the maximum altitude for a Part 107 drone?
400 feet above ground level (AGL).
- 500 feet AGL
- 400 feet MSL
- 400 feet AGL ✔
Why: Part 107 limits small drones to 400 feet above ground level. AGL is measured from the ground below the drone, not from sea level.
Huh, didn't know that: The altitude limit is in section 107.51, which the FAA can waive with a certificate of waiver.
My drone wanted to go to 401 feet. I told it to stay grounded in reality.
