SESK: Stuff Everyone Should Know · sesk.info/drone-visibility-3-miles
What minimum flight visibility does Part 107 require, as seen from the control station?
3 statute miles.
- 1 statute mile
- 5 statute miles
- 3 statute miles ✔
Why: Flight visibility observed from the control station must be at least 3 statute miles. If haze, fog or smoke cuts it below that, the flight cannot go.
Huh, didn't know that: Part 107 defines flight visibility as the average slant distance at which prominent objects can be seen and identified.
I asked my drone why it would not fly in the fog. It said it just could not see the point.
